How to convert MP4 to GIF

Upload an MP4 file, choose a width from 32 to 640 pixels and a frame rate from 5 to 30 FPS, then select a frame-sampling option. Convert the file and preview the animation before downloading it.

Control GIF smoothness and size

A higher FPS retains more motion but normally increases file size. Reducing the output width or sampling fewer MP4 frames stores less image data and is especially helpful for longer clips.

Color palette and image quality

The converter analyzes the MP4 frames to generate a GIF color palette, then applies that palette while creating the animation. Lanczos scaling is used when resizing to preserve cleaner edges and detail.

GIF limitations

The result has no audio because GIF is an image format. GIF also compresses photographic motion less efficiently than MP4, so long, detailed, or high-resolution clips can produce unexpectedly large downloads.

Frequently asked questions

Can I change the GIF size?

Yes. Reduce the width, FPS, or number of sampled frames before starting the conversion.

Does an MP4-to-GIF conversion include audio?

No. GIF does not support an audio track.

Why is the GIF larger than the MP4?

MP4 compresses moving video much more efficiently. GIF stores a sequence of limited-color images, which can be much larger for long or detailed clips.
